How can I skip topics I already know?

Use our section quizzes and quiz check questions to tick off content ⏩

Written by Hannah Acutt

If you’re already confident with some of the A Level concepts in a section, you don’t need to go through everything! Use our section quizzes and quiz-check questions to quickly assess your knowledge and tick off topics you already understand. This helps you focus on the activities that will most benefit your learning.

Do I need to do all the activities in a section?

Watching videos and completing all activities is key to increasing your Up Score. It ensures you’ve covered the full course content and keeps your progress on track 🎯

The section will only show as complete (with a solid ring) once you’ve ticked off every activity, so make sure you do this if you’re aiming for full completion!

When you Strengthen a section, the algorithm will take you back to any videos you haven’t ticked off to make sure you’ve fully understood every topic 👏

What is a section quiz?

A section quiz will automatically pop up when you begin a new section. They’re built to figure out - quickly and accurately - exactly what you know and what you don't. So you can skip the stuff you've got covered and get straight to the content that will actually move the needle on your grade 💪

If you’re not ready to take it straight away, no problem — just dismiss it and come back later using the Section Quiz button at the top of the section page 🖱️

Section quizzes are currently available for:

🔢 Maths

🧪 Chemistry

🔬 AQA Physics

How the section quizzes work

Our diagnostic-based quizzes use a structured sequence of questions to understand your knowledge in a more accurate and supportive way. Each question is carefully designed by our subject experts to build a clearer picture of your understanding over time.

As you answer each question, the system continuously updates its view of your knowledge. Rather than treating each response as simply right or wrong, it considers how likely it is that you truly understand the concept. This helps account for situations where an answer might be correct due to a guess, or incorrect despite partial understanding.

For example:

🎯 A correct answer to a more challenging question provides stronger evidence of understanding

🍀 A correct answer that is likely guessed has a smaller impact

⚖️ Inconsistent answers help refine the system’s confidence level over time

This approach is based on a method known as Bayesian knowledge tracing, widely used in learning science to model understanding more accurately than traditional scoring methods.

Once there is enough evidence, the system responds accordingly:

🚀 If you’ve demonstrated clear understanding, you’ll move on to the next topic

📚 If a gap in understanding is identified, you’ll be guided to targeted learning content

🤔 If your understanding is still unclear, you’ll be given another question to help refine the result

So answering questions correctly in a section quiz will automatically tick off the corresponding videos and quizzes in that section. That means you can skip the content you already know and focus on the areas that need more of your attention 💪

Note: Section quizzes can only be retaken if it’s been more than 7 days. They’re designed to assess your understanding, not for repeated revision🦉

What is a quiz check question?

Some videos have quiz-check questions that pop up before the video starts. Try answering these to see if you already understand that content 👀

If you’d prefer to go straight to the video, just choose ‘Just start video’.

Quiz-check questions are currently available for:

⚛️ OCR Physics

💱 Economics

🧠 Psychology

Tick off the video if you understand the concepts

Answering quiz-check questions correctly shows us that you already understand the main concepts, and the video will be marked as complete. You can then move on to the next topic that needs your focus ⏩

If you don’t get the questions correct, the video will continue to play so you can review the concepts and strengthen your understanding.

How should I use these to complete a section?

To work through your sections most efficiently:

✅ Do the section quiz or quiz check questions to tick off content you already know

📹 Watch the remaining videos and complete the quizzes

💪 Strengthen to correct incorrect answers and get everything to green
