Exam Question are exam-style questions, organised by topic, which cover all the topics in the spec! Find them at the top of the course overview page, next to Exam Papers. The purposes of the exam questions by topic are:

  • To allow you to tailor your revision to specific topics

  • To provide detailed explanations for each exam question to help you understand where you may lose marks

What are the benefits of completing Exam Questions by Topic?

It is an amazing revision feature! Complete lots of these to test the knowledge you've built up, identify areas of weakness and refine your skills 🌟

Other components of the course, such as Practice Exam Quizzes, Recall Quizzes and Practice Papers, are a better indicator of your progress, Exam Questions by topic does not contribute to your Up Score. This means no green bars and you don't need to complete them all to qualify for the money-back guarantee!

There are at least FIVE questions for every topic on the specification. You may notice that the topic names are sometimes different from the names of Up Learn sections and subsections. This is because we want this feature to mimic the language and structure of the specification as much as possible.

Please note: The biology courses are organised slightly differently, check out the What is Biology's ‘Exam Questions’ Section? to learn more.

🔎How do I access Exam Questions (by topic)?

You can access the Exam Practice by topic questions within your desired course. Simply click on the box that reads “Exam Questions” near the top of the course page, just under the Progress box. Choose the topic you want to practice and you will be provided with the appropriate question for that topic 🧠

Please note: Psychology and Economics do not have Exam Questions By Topic

📖What are Exams Questions (How-tos)?

Exam Questions (How-tos) are exam-style questions with an interactive mark scheme that is followed by a detailed walkthrough of the model answer. They tell you 'How-to' do the questions! They are intended to cover each main question type that comes up in the exam, using a specific question as an example 🔥

What are the benefits of completing Exam Questions (How tos)?

You will see examples of different types of questions and learn how to nail the answers! The videos also will teach you strategies to make sure you know what the question is asking for. You'll see how your answers would be marked, and shown how to maximise your marks! Not to mention completing these questions will boost your Up Score 🌟

You’ll need to complete them as part of completing the overall course. So make sure you go through this section at least once so you don’t miss out 💪

🔎How can I access Exam Questions (How-tos)?

You can access Exam Questions (How-Tos) within your desired course. Scroll to the bottom of the course page to locate the topic called "Exam Questions, or Exam How-Tos" at the bottom right-hand side of the course. Click this topic and select one of the lessons to get started.

What the difference between Exam Questions (How-tos) and Exam Questions (By Topic) ?

Both sections contain questions that are designed to reflect the format and challenge level of actual exams. They also both have detailed and helpful mark schemes, designed to help you understand the answer, as well as the marking process 🤓

How-tos

The difference is that the How-To questions also include a walkthrough of the recommended approach, and an explanation of the model answer. The How-to questions do not necessarily cover all the topics, but instead aim to cover one of each question type that will come up in the exam ✒️📖

By Topic

Questions by topic aim to cover all the topics in the course as well as a variety of question types and lengths. These do not have walkthrough videos but they do have additional explanations, written to carefully guide you through the method and mark scheme. This section is found at the top of the course page, under the 'My Progress' box.

When should I complete Exam Questions?

Once you have completed the content for that topic (or sooner for if you want more of a challenge!). Make sure to check out the Exam How-to questions when you are beginning to complete practice papers. ✨

Can I re-do Exam Questions?

Yes! You can re-do any exam questions as often as you’d like (in fact, we encourage it!). If you re-attempt an exam question, only the highest mark from your attempts will contribute to your Up Score (so any lower scores won’t be dragging you down). 🚀

📖What is Exam Technique?

This section contains video lessons which go through advice and frameworks for approaching specific types of questions in the exam. These videos discuss exam techniques and strategies and are designed to be applicable to any question of this type.

What’s the difference between Exam Questions (How-tos) and Exam Techniques?

Exam Questions (How-tos) use a specific question to demonstrate how to do exam questions. They include a detailed mark scheme and walkthrough.

Exam techniques discuss question types in general, sometimes using a specific example but not in as much detail as in the how-to videos. Exam technique also covers frameworks that can be applied to answering any questions. 📖

Note: All courses contain Exam Skills: some have Exam Questions (How-to) and some Exam Techniques (and a few courses have both!)
