Tutoring highlight

My favourite part about tutoring students is helping them to understand complicated topics so they can answer questions for themselves.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

Rather than trying to remember formulas, try to understand the physical explanation of what's going on.

πŸ§ͺ Chemistry

🏫

Academic achievements

MSc Chemistry, University of Oxford

✨

Tutoring highlight

My favourite part about tutoring students is the achievement you feel and the gratefulness students show when you are able to break down a tricky concept and explain it in a way they understand. Chemistry questions can often be very complex but when a student is able to understand the methods to use through my explanations and then feels comfortable in applying them to new questions it is very rewarding.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

I would say a top tip for Chemistry is to do lots of practice questions. The best way to learn the concepts and apply them is through trying yourself, and if it is particularly difficult then the tutors are always there to help.

The best part about tutoring students is to be able to see their curiosity about the subject and the world around them grow! To be on that journey with them is truly special.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

A top tip for studying economics is to always reference your graphs in the body of your essays. I always see such lovely graphs drawn by students and when they are beautifully referenced to in the essay the examiners love it!

Focus on understanding the concepts, not just memorising them. If you can explain an idea, like elasticity or opportunity cost, in simple terms and link it to real-life examples, you’ll find the rest much easier.

I love when students move beyond memorizing facts and start asking deeper questions, like why an enzyme works the way it does, or what might happen if a certain variable changed. That curiosity shows they’re not just studying for exams, they’re learning to critically think like scientists. And whether they become scientists or not, that kind of thinking will benefit them wherever they go!

πŸŽ“

Top tip

Chemistry and Biology require application, don’t just memorize! Explain concepts out loud as if you’re teaching them. If you can teach it simply and explain the why, you truly understand it.

My favourite part about tutoring is witnessing that "aha" moment when a challenging concept finally clicks for a student. It is incredibly rewarding to see their confidence grow as their understanding grows.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

My one top tip for A-level Biology students is to master your recall of definitions and processes. Biology builds on itself, so a strong foundational understanding will make even the most complex topics much more manageable.

I really love watching a student go from not knowing how to tackle a question to feeling really confident in doing it all by themselves. It gives me a sense of privilege to watch someone grow in confidence in their own ability.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

Remember they can change whatever they want with the question or give you something unfamiliar, but they can never change the science. Read the question carefully and look for clues that might help link back to something you already know.

I love tutoring physics because the more you understand it the more rewarding it becomes. This makes it a real pleasure to help students grapple with the difficult ideas it presents and gain a deeper understanding of them.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

My Top Tip for physics would always be to try and identify the fundamental principle(s) that relate to the question. From there, break the question down to approach it step by step and make it more manageable.

Tutoring highlight

The most rewarding part is seeing students develop a genuine love for the subject, especially when everything suddenly clicks into place. It’s a great feeling to be part of that journey.

πŸŽ“

Top tip

The key to success is developing a strong understanding of the content. One of the best ways to do this is by asking questions. Focus on understanding the reasoning behind concepts: why something happens, why it works that way, and why we use certain methods. This approach makes it much easier to tackle challenging application questions with confidence.

Tutoring highlight

What I love most about tutoring is the range of questions students bring, it keeps things interesting! But the best part is seeing their progress over time and hearing their excitement when they tell us where they’re off to after graduation 😊

πŸŽ“

Top tip

Top study tip for biology and chemistry: Do a little every day. It really adds up! And if something doesn’t make sense right away, that’s totally normal. Take a break, clear your head, and come back to it with fresh eyes. Understanding often clicks the second (or third!) time around.
