Up Learn tracks student progress in several smart ways, helping you see who’s engaging, how much they’re learning, and who might need a nudge or some extra help. Learn how students use the platform and how you can use each feature to understand if they’re on track for exam success 🌟

How do my students work through the course?

Students work through the course by completing activities, and there are a few main types of activities:

📹 Video lessons

🤔 Progress quizzes

✍️ Exam Questions

📝 Exam papers

Each section is made up of a combination of these activities.

Our video lessons teach students what they need to know to understand a topic, with in-video questions keeping them engaged. Completing the progress quizzes will then check their understanding of the videos they have watched.

Our Exam Questions take it up a notch to test them at an exam-level, while our Exam papers bring everything together to give them a real feel of what writing their exam will be like 💪

For each activity students complete, they will receive a score based on how many questions they got correct. They will also receive XP, or experience points. These act as rewards for completing activities, but we also use them to record the productive hours students spend on the platform ⏱️

💡70 XP = approximately 1 hour productive work on Up Learn

How do my students complete an assignment?

An assignment is equal to one section. Once a student completes all activities in that section, the assignment is marked as complete.

Students complete assignments by:

📝 Answering the section quiz or completing pre-video quizzes - if they get the answers right, the related activities will automatically be ticked off

✅ Completing all remaining activities

If a student skips a question or doesn’t watch an entire video, the activity won’t be ticked off.

How do my students increase their section score?

Section scores show how well students understand each topic. Students should aim for a solid green circle, which means:

💯 All activities in the section are complete

🎯 All questions have been answered correctly

If a student has a red or yellow section score, encourage them to go for green by using Strengthen to improve their understanding. Once they’ve hit green, Refresh Knowledge helps them keep it green.

🧠 Scores naturally drop over time due to our built-in memory decay feature, so regular revision is essential.

  • A solid circle = the section is fully complete

  • A dotted circle = the section is incomplete, the score reflects only what’s been done so far

How do I know how prepared my students are for exams?

All their sections should be green - this shows they understand the content. We also encourage students to complete exam papers and Exam Questions in their course, as these will allow them to practise exam-level content.

Every student has a Score for each course - students will call this their Up Score. This is their overall score for the course, calculated from all their section and exam paper scores combined.

🌟 A student with a 90% Up Score is performing at an A*/A level.

👏 Encourage students to keep an eye on their Score throughout the year - it’s their best indicator of how exam-ready they are.
