Up Learn tracks student progress in several smart ways, helping you see who’s engaging, how much they’re learning, and who might need a nudge or some extra help.

Learn how students use the platform and how you can use each feature to understand if they’re on track for exam success 🌟

How do my students work through the course?

Students work through the course by completing activities.

We have a few main types:

📹 Video lessons: Teach students key concepts, with in-video questions to keep them engaged.

🤔 Progress quizzes: Check their understanding of the videos they’ve watched.

✍️ Exam questions: Test their knowledge at exam level.

📝 Exam papers: Bring everything together for realistic exam practice.

Each section is made up of a combination of these activities. For each activity students complete, they will receive a score based on the number of correct answers. They will also receive XP, or experience points, as rewards for completing activities 🌟

How do my students complete an assignment?

To complete an assignment, a student needs to get the section score to 80% (green). This shows they have a solid understanding of the content.

Students can do this by:

📝 Completing the section quiz or pre-video quizzes (correct answers here automatically count towards related activities)

Attempting any remaining activities

💪 Strengthening to fix incorrect answers

How do my students use their rings to track their progress?

Each section has a coloured ring showing the percentage of questions answered correctly at least once:

🔴 Red: Below 50%

🟡 Amber: 50–79%

🟢 Green: 80%+

Green means mastery ✅ Students should go for green on their first attempt. If they don’t reach it, they should Strengthen until they do, then use Refresh Knowledge to keep it green.

How do my students combat memory decay?

If students don’t revisit content, they start to forget it - this is called memory decay ⌛ Decay begins around 7 days after a section is completed.

To keep sections green, students should use Refresh Knowledge, which:

🔄 Selects questions from across the course for spaced practice

Boosts section scores back up to green when questions are answered correctly

Students will see a Refresh Knowledge notification in their Assignments list, but they can also use it any time to keep their memory sharp.

How do I know how prepared my students are for exams?

Students should have all sections in green to show they’ve mastered the content. We also encourage students to complete exam papers and Exam Questions to practise exam-level content.

Every student has a Score for each course - students will call this their Up Score. This is their overall score for the course, calculated from all their section and exam paper scores combined.

🌟 A student with a 90% Up Score is performing at an A*/A level.

👏 Encourage students to keep an eye on their Score throughout the year - it’s their best indicator of how exam-ready they are.
